8 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup melted butter

1/2 cup maple syrup

Powdered sugar (for serving)

Fresh berries (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Place the cubed French bread into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish in an even layer.

Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Press down gently with a spatula to submerge the bread.

Add Melted Butter and Syrup: Drizzle the melted butter and maple syrup over the top, gently stirring to combine. Cover the casserole with foil and refrigerate overnight.

Next Day Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) about 30 minutes before baking.

Bake the Casserole: Remove the foil and bake the casserole for 45-55 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

Serve: Allow to cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with fresh berries and additional maple syrup, if desired.
