Ingredients

8 ounces spaghetti or fettuccine

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

6 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

Zest of 1 lemon

Freshly grated Parmesan cheese for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti or fettuccine according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the rest and set aside.

Make the Garlic Butter: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

Prepare the Sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir frequently to combine. Allow the cream to reduce slightly for about 2-3 minutes.

Add Cheese and Seasoning: Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until completely melted and smooth. Add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir until well combined.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the garlic Parmesan sauce. Toss to coat, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach your desired sauce consistency.

Finish with Fresh Ingredients: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in the lemon zest and chopped parsley. Adjust seasoning if needed.

Serve: Plate the pasta hot, garnishing with extra grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of parsley.
