Ingredients

1 lb (450g) chicken sausage, sliced

1 cup uncooked orzo pasta

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups chicken broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup spinach leaves, roughly chopped

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Sauté the Sausage: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until golden brown, about 5-6 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Cook the Aromatics: In the same skillet, add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Add Orzo and Broth: Add the uncooked orzo to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion and garlic. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 10-12 minutes, or until the orzo is al dente and most of the liquid has been absorbed.

Make it Creamy: Stir in the heavy cream, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Return the cooked chicken sausage to the skillet. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Add Spinach and Cheese: Fold in the chopped spinach and grated Parmesan cheese. Cook for an additional minute until the spinach is wilted and the cheese is melted.

Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious creamy chicken sausage orzo skillet!
