Go Back
The origins of Bang Bang Chicken can be traced back to Chinese cuisine, where the dish was traditionally made with shredded chicken and a spicy sauce. The name "Bang Bang" is believed to come from the sound of the wooden stick used to pound the chicken during preparation, creating a tender texture. Over time, the dish evolved, gaining popularity in Western cultures and being adapted to suit modern tastes.

Ingredients

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)

1 cup cooked jasmine rice or brown rice

1 cup broccoli florets (steamed)

1 cup shredded carrots

½ cup red bell pepper, thinly sliced

½ cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

½ cup mayonnaise

3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce

1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon lime juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken pieces with soy sauce and cornstarch. Toss until the chicken is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Make the Bang Bang Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper as desired. Set aside.

Cook the Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces in a single layer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Bowls: In each bowl, start with a base of cooked rice. Top with the cooked chicken, steamed broccoli florets, shredded carrots, and sliced red bell pepper.

Add the Sauce: Drizzle the Bang Bang sauce generously over each bowl. Garnish with chopped green onions.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy the explosion of flavors in your Bang Bang Chicken Bowls!
